Breastfeeding Studies
Observational studies suggest a longer duration of breastfeeding to be associated dose dependently with a decrease in risk of overweight in later life. The authors performed a comprehensive meta-analysis of the existing studies on duration of breastfeeding and risk of overweight. . . . The definitions of overweight and age had no influence. These findings strongly support a dose-dependent association between longer duration of breastfeeding and decrease in risk of overweight. Read the study here. And remember, scientific findings in health studies show patterns, and aren't guarantees of positive or negative outcomes. Just ask my healthy as a horse smoking, ice-cream-and-tastee-cakes eating grandmother-in-law....

You seem to think the central point of the criticism was that they were insulting eachother, but I do believe I find their accusations of strangers a blatant offense to the dignity of this BBS. It's rude, stupid, and trite, as well as seeming like a blatant attempt to fill this forum with crude issuances. I've a few crude (and honest) issuances I could provide, but no one here is worth it.

Proposed "Right of Reply" to Internet Criticism
Boing Boing points to a LawMeme posting about a European proposal draft that would require "that Internet news organizations, individual Web sites, moderated mailing lists and even Web logs (or 'blogs'), must offer a 'right of reply' to those who have been criticized by a person or organization." Fortunately, the draft provides that 'It may be considered sufficient to publish (the reply) or make available a link to it' from the spot of the original mention." Interesting idea, but many problems to adoption in U.S. , not the least of which is the First Amendment. Also, who determines what the meaning of "criticized?" When the Republican party web site criticizes Democrats, does every Democrat in the country have a right of reply? News.com has more comments.

Clinton adds voice to criticism of Guantánamo
Bill Clinton has become the most prominent figure so far to add his voice to criticisms of the US prison camp at Guantánamo Bay in Cuba. In an interview with the Financial Times, the former president called for the camp, set up to hold suspected terrorists, to ?be closed down or cleaned up?. Mr Clinton joined critics at home and abroad who have singled out the indefinite detention of prisoners without trial and widespread reports of human rights violations at Guantánamo. ?It is time that there are no more stories coming out of there about people being abused,? he said.

U.S. Spy Efforts Face a New Round of Criticism
U.S. intelligence officials are bracing this week for another harshly worded review of American efforts to spy on terrorist groups and radical regimes armed with weapons of mass destruction. Officials who have read portions of the still-classified report by a presidential commission said it was sharply critical of U.S. intelligence collection and analysis in Iran and North Korea, and that it cited glaring gaps in core U.S. intelligence about the two regimes' nuclear programs. Agent networks in both countries have been said to be sorely deficient. Full Story

Oh the irony of breastfeeding
Meredith at BostonBaby Blog is fuming quite eloquently about stadium’s breastfeeding policies. The Boston Herald ran a story quoting a woman who was asked by Patriot’s security to move her feeding to the bathroom. Feeding a child in a stadium bathroom, how appealing for mother and child. Apparently at Fenway Park if any fan finds public breastfeeding ‘offensive’ the woman is asked to move to a more discreet place to feed her child. Meredith points out the extreme irony of fans being offended by a woman feeding her child but not at all offended by the scantily clad cheerleaders prancing around the field. Is this the 1800’s? Wait, in the 1800’s people breastfed their babies. Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments© 2005 Weblogs, Inc. Ads by Google
